Two months ago when we launched the Layar Creator, we announced that all features of the Creator would be completely free until August 1st. Well, it’s August 1st, so what’s changing today? What’s free, and what’s not? Here’s a breakdown of answers to these questions and more.

What’s different about the Creator starting today?
From now on, whenever you publish a campaign in the Layar Creator, we’ll prompt you to either pay for the pages you’re publishing (which we call “Pro”), or publish them for free (which we naturally call “Free”).

Why would I pay when I can publish for free?
With Pro campaigns, we’ll provide advanced statistics, the same stats available in the Creator before today. Free campaigns will have only very basic stats. Additionally, Pro campaigns feature zero ads. Free campaigns will display ads in the AR view when viewed with Layar.

How much do Pro campaigns cost?
Each individual page within a Pro campaign costs €15. You can also buy a bundle of 100 pages for €999, a 33% discount on the normal price of each page. Unused pages in a bundle will be saved to your account for use with future Pro campaigns.

How do I pay?
When you publish a page, we’ll prompt you to either pay for each page, buy a bundle, or publish for free. Payments are one-time fees only, not a recurring subscription. You can pay with PayPal or credit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express).

Can I edit a purchased page?
Yes! If you publish a Pro campaign you can always go back and edit the content of the pages at no extra cost.

What happens to the campaigns I published before August 1st?
These campaigns will be grandfathered in as Pro campaigns, but we’ll never ask you to pay for any pages in these campaigns. If you add pages to these campaigns after August 1st, they will be subject to the Pro pricing plan. Anything published after today will be subject to the Pro or Free plans. Each campaign must be either fully Pro or Free. Free pages cannot be added to Pro campaigns, and vice versa.

What about Layar Vision layers that I develop on my own?
Usage-based pricing for Layar Vision will discontinue as of today (August 1st) and will be replaced with the Creator Pro pricing system (€15/page, €999/bundle). There will not be a Free option for these independently developed Layar Vision layers built outside of the Creator.

And what about geo-layers with POIs?
Geo-layers will always be free. We only charge to use Layar Vision or Layar Creator.
